My newest paintings keep the work loose and unfussy while also providing ongoing interpretation and discoveries. Oil paints are my preferred medium and my subject matter leans toward landscapes, architectural elements, and animals. On occasion, I give complete abstract work a try.
Harrison Lake at Sunset
A recently commissioned painting of Harrison Lake in Canada.
Winter Light II
One of my last acrylic paintings was Winter Light. I recently saw this painting again (it was purchased by a friend) and I realized how much I liked the overall piece, and the specific color palette and mood. I wanted much the same feel but with a more playful and brilliant sunrise, and of course, this time in oils.
Calm at the Ocean
My latest abstract illustrates the calm I feel when I'm at the ocean. One deep breathe of salty sea air reduces any stress or worries I may have and makes life's challenges seem manageable. I chose a palette I find relaxing and a composition that conveys a slowing of movement and energy.
Oyster Shells
On a trip to San Juan Island in the Puget Sound, I studied the color palette of the many oyster shells and used them to inspire my latest abstract painting.
Henderson Bay #1
My second ode to abstract painter Richard Diebenkorn. Henderson Bay #1 concentrates on the interplay of colors as the sun sets in the sky, illuminates part of the Olympic Mountains, and bounces off the Bay.
Bandon Dunes
The Southern Oregon Coast is cold, windy, and downright stormy on a good day. Yet the lighting, the beautiful scenery and occasional blue skies make the destination worthwhile. This oil painting combines several images along with my imagination.
